Introduction to Calligraphy Workshop at The Figge in January!


I am so very excited to be offering a beginning course in calligraphy this coming January at The Figge. Please check out there education website for this course and others coming up by CLICKING HERE.

CALIGRAPHY WORKSHOP BEG/INT

Saturday, January 17, 10 am-2 pm   
$40/member; $50/non-member

Here is the list of supplies:
Supplies:
Two 3.5 size black Marvy or other brand felt tip calligraphy markers
2 double-ended calligraphy markers (1 black and one color)
1 each Schaefer or other brand 3 nib calligraphic fountain pen set with ink cartridges
1 each calligraphy practice paper pad and or
3-4 sheets quality writing papers (white or soft colors)
Regular white 8 ½ X 11 computer paper (Bring lots because this is what we will practice on) 
Most of all bring a smile and lots of patience with yourself as this is an art where you must practice, practice, practice  

**Students should bring a sack lunch

Take your handwriting from ordinary to extraordinary! Quad City artist and calligrapher Amy Nielsen will lead students in a creative study of the formal alphabet, which is one of the most important basic alphabets in western calligraphy. Using steel and felt-tipped pens, you’ll develop an understanding of all the basics to be able to write a formal alphabet with a flourish!

Next Calligraphy Class June 11

Thank you to everyone who made my most recent Calligraphy Class at 1st United Congregational Church in Moline a great success! We had a good sized class of very enthusiastic students! I can't wait to see their work in the coming months. Remember everyone, email me photos of your practice work as you go along!

The Art Legacy League 2014 Art Preservation Fundraiser was a great success!! We had over 90 guests for the evening with great response for our silent auction. Please check out The Art Legacy League website, www.artlegacyleague.org, for more details and photos.

My next Calligraphy Class at The River Arts Center in Clinton, Iowa will take place on June 11th from10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.  You must register through The River Arts Center, but if you have questions about the class, please EMAIL ME with them and I will be happy to respond.

At each of these classes I take a few minutes to review the basics. The class on June 11th will cover the calligraphic hand, BATARDE.

On June 1st of this year the ALL will be hosting Steve Berry for a gala fundraising event to support our work. Steve Berry is a New York Times best selling author whose books are filled with history.
